Restorative Dentistry In Cherry Hill, NJ

Restorative dentistry is dentistry for patients who suffer from common oral health problems , treatment of conditions effecting the teeth, gums and maxillofacial (jaw and face) portions of the body, that require extra care. Sometimes, the methods and techniques used can overlap with cosmetic dentistry procedures. Modern restorative dentistry works with modern restorations that are designed to look and feel natural or improve how the teeth work or their appearance. A good, quality cosmetic dentist can perform the various restoration procedures very differently than just a general dentist. Dr. Lee is well versed in restorative procedures.

Very common general restorative procedures include:
Dental Crowns

Dental Crowns are coverings that go over damaged, cracked, chipped or discolored teeth that need restoration. Dental crowns, when fully cemented in place to cover over the tooth that lies at and about the gum line. Dental crowns will be made using the same color of your teeth to give you a natural look.

Dental Bridges

Dental bridges are custom made prosthetics that are anchored to the neighboring teeth to replace any missing teeth. They are made to look very natural looking as well. These are prepared, like dental crowns, from high quality materials.

Fillings

Teeth fillings are the placing of composites to allow the tooth to be as close as possible to its original strength, but with the use of a resin to bond the tooth to hold it all together. Amalgam fillings have been replaced by these resins as it has been found to be better under hot and cold temperatures and with sheer pressure as well.

Air Abrasion and Micro Dentistry

Air abrasion technology is a dental technique that uses a fine powder called aluminum oxide under air pressure to quickly and efficiently get rid of cavities in teeth without the need for anesthetic or needles. This is another modern dentistry technique to get rid of decay or any kind of other similar issues without te use of needles and surgeries. The cavity is removed and then more tooth enamel remains in place.

Cosmetic Dentures

If you are missing teeth, cosmetic dentures are a common restorative technique used to replace those missing teeth. When several teeth need to be replaced, cosmetic dentures can be used as a popular alternative to conserve existing healthy teeth, allowing for the ability to chew and bite as well as giving you a nice, full smile.

Dental Implants in Cherry Hill, NJ

If you are missing a tooth or multiple teeth, dental implants may be for you! Dental implants have been used in dentistry for 40 years. They provide a permanent solution to missing teeth, thereby enabling you to chew food and restore your confidence again!

Dental implants can improve your smile, your self-confidence – and your health! Dental implants are a method of replacing missing teeth, in which titanium posts are surgically fused with your jawbone beneath the gum line, allowing replacement teeth or a bridge to be mounted.  With dental implants, the teeth adjacent to the missing teeth remain untouched, which eliminates unnecessary disturbance to the teeth it is next to, and the potential need for costly and excruciating root canals. Dental implants are for single or multiple tooth replacement and are an alternative to dentures.

Dental Bridges and Dental Crowns in Cherry Hill, NJ

Dental Bridges

Dr. Lee specializes in dental bridges. A dental bridge replaces missing teeth by anchoring to the healthy teeth on both sides of the open space. A fixed dental bridge is permanently joined onto the neighboring abutment teeth (crowned teeth) and consists of three basic units: the false tooth or teeth (called a pontic) and two abutment crowns. Bridges can be made from three types of material: high noble metal for reliable long wear, porcelain fused to a metal base for strength and beauty, and high-strength metal-free porcelain for optimum cosmetic results. Dr. Lee will determine exactly what material and color shade will be used, so that will blend it naturally.

Dental Crowns

Dr. Lee specializes in dental crowns. As you may know, crowns are used to cap teeth that have decayed, broken, cracked or are discolored. Often they are needed for teeth that have had root canals. Crowns can also be placed on dental implants to replace missing teeth. They can be made entirely of gold or porcelain fused to a gold substrate for strength. With newer technology, crowns can be made entirely from high-strength ceramic and porcelain for the most natural appearing and cosmetic results.  Ceramic crowns are not like the bulky, opaque crowns of years past, eliminating the commonly seen “gray line” near the gum.

Dental crowns are created by reshaping the tooth.  A part of the tooth may need to be removed for the crown to fit correctly. After the dentist reshapes your tooth, Impressions are taken to create the crown. This impression will be used to create a permanent crown. In between visits, Dr. Lee will install a temporary crown. Once Dr. Lee receives the permanent crown you will be fitted to ensure it fits comfortably and matches your teeth coloring.

Dental Bonding is faster and less expensive than veneers or crowns, and can thus be a good option to make small cosmetic             improvements to your teeth if dental bridge or dental crowns are not for you. However, bonding typically doesn’t last as long as     dental bridges or dental crowns.

Full and Partial Dentures

As an alternative to dental implants, Dr. Lee also offers partial or full dentures. With increasing technological advancements in the   dental field, dentures have become more durable and natural-looking, providing patients in need of teeth replacement with a way   to restore and improve not only the appearance of their smile, but the ability of the teeth to function normally as well.

FAQs

What are Dental Crowns and Tooth Bridges?
Both crowns and most bridges are fixed prosthetic devices. Unlike removable devices such as dentures, which you can take out and clean daily, crowns and bridges are cemented onto existing teeth or implants, and can only be removed by a dentist.

How do Crowns Work?
A crown is used to entirely cover or “cap” a damaged tooth. Besides strengthening a damaged tooth, a crown can be used to improve its appearance, shape or alignment. A crown can also be placed on top of an implant to provide a tooth-like shape and structure for function. Porcelain or ceramic crowns can be matched to the color of your natural teeth. Other materials include gold and metal alloys, acrylic and ceramic. These alloys are generally stronger than porcelain and may be recommended for back teeth. Porcelain bonded to a metal shell is often used because it is both strong and attractive.
