Dental Bridges and Dental Crowns in Cherry Hill, NJ

Dr. Lee specializes in dental bridges. A dental bridge replaces missing teeth by anchoring to the healthy teeth on both sides of the open space. A fixed dental bridge is permanently joined onto the neighboring abutment teeth (crowned teeth) and consists of three basic units: the false tooth or teeth (called a pontic) and two abutment crowns. Bridges can be made from three types of material: high noble metal for reliable long wear, porcelain fused to a metal base for strength and beauty, and high-strength metal-free porcelain for optimum cosmetic results. Dr. Lee will determine exactly what material and color shade will be used, so that will blend it naturally.

Dental Crowns

Dr. Lee specializes in dental crowns. As you may know, crowns are used to cap teeth that have decayed, broken, cracked or are discolored. Often they are needed for teeth that have had root canals. Crowns can also be placed on dental implants to replace missing teeth. They can be made entirely of gold or porcelain fused to a gold substrate for strength. With newer technology, crowns can be made entirely from high-strength ceramic and porcelain for the most natural appearing and cosmetic results.  Ceramic crowns are not like the bulky, opaque crowns of years past, eliminating the commonly seen “gray line” near the gum.

Dental crowns are created by reshaping the tooth.  A part of the tooth may need to be removed for the crown to fit correctly. After the dentist reshapes your tooth, Impressions are taken to create the crown. This impression will be used to create a permanent crown. In between visits, Dr. Lee will install a temporary crown. Once Dr. Lee receives the permanent crown you will be fitted to ensure it fits comfortably and matches your teeth coloring.

Dental Bonding is faster and less expensive than veneers or crowns, and can thus be a good option to make small cosmetic             improvements to your teeth if dental bridge or dental crowns are not for you. However, bonding typically doesn’t last as long as     dental bridges or dental crowns.

Full and Partial Dentures

As an alternative to dental implants, Dr. Lee also offers partial or full dentures. With increasing technological advancements in the   dental field, dentures have become more durable and natural-looking, providing patients in need of teeth replacement with a way   to restore and improve not only the appearance of their smile, but the ability of the teeth to function normally as well.

FAQs

What are Dental Crowns and Tooth Bridges?
Both crowns and most bridges are fixed prosthetic devices. Unlike removable devices such as dentures, which you can take out and clean daily, crowns and bridges are cemented onto existing teeth or implants, and can only be removed by a dentist.

How do Crowns Work?
A crown is used to entirely cover or “cap” a damaged tooth. Besides strengthening a damaged tooth, a crown can be used to improve its appearance, shape or alignment. A crown can also be placed on top of an implant to provide a tooth-like shape and structure for function. Porcelain or ceramic crowns can be matched to the color of your natural teeth. Other materials include gold and metal alloys, acrylic and ceramic. These alloys are generally stronger than porcelain and may be recommended for back teeth. Porcelain bonded to a metal shell is often used because it is both strong and attractive.
