Botox in Cherry Hill,NJ

Botox, Dysport, & Xeomin

What are they used for?

  • Cosmetic Purposes in the Head, Neck, Facial Area

  • To Treat Pain & Dysfunction in the Head, Neck & Upper Back Area Which Controls Your Jaw Function

  • Anything that is controlled by a motor nerve which needs management of its function

Botox, Dysport, and Xeomin are brand names for Botulinum type A toxin. Each has different molecules attached to it so the pharmaceutical companies can patent them.  It is a purified protein with extra molecules attached. There is no danger of Botulinum poisoningfor any therapeutic dosage.  The working part is the same on all of them.  They affect the motor nerves to the muscle fibers. When used for cosmetic purposes, muscle fibers become relaxed within a number of days after treatment, and then the lines in the skin above them smooth out. The "effect" of Dysport, Botox, and Xeomin lasts about 3 to 6 months.  Read further to see what determines how long the EFFECT lasts.

What is the difference between Botulinum toxins and Dermal Fillers?

Dermal Fillers, such as Juvederm and Restylane, are composed of hyaluronic acid, a natural substance in your body. These work by plumping the area. It fills-in the area which aging, loss of fat and degradation/slumping of collagen, has caused to sag.  Although hyaluronic acid is natural to your body, the fillers are not.  They have had various molecules added to them so the pharmaceutical companies can patent them.  Natural substances cannot be patented.  You will see this as a recurring theme with all medications, even patented supplements.

Dermal Fillers usually last about 6 to 12 months, depending upon your metabolism and immune system.  The healthier you are, the shorter the effect lasts.  That is true for both Botulinum type A toxin treatments and Dermal Fillers.  Your body thinks it is doing a healing process.  In the case of fillers, your body is taking away what it considers an excess (your body contains about 56% of the normal hyaluronic acid which your body contains).  In the case of the Botulinum type A toxins, the sealing of the nerve endings is permanent.  Your brain thinks your nerve endings were cut off and orchestrates new nerve ending growth via your healing process to re-innervate those muscle fibers. So you see, how long the EFFECT lasts varies by individual and within each individual, depending upon your state of health at any given time

Botulinum type A toxin is the number one cosmetic procedure in the world. Because of its action on muscles, Dr. Lee also uses it in treating TMJ and muscular problems such as BRUXISM and TENSION HEADACHES.
